The mind boggles. I can't believe its been so long since Operation Flashpoint, my all-time favorite PC game, was released by the small Czech software house (Bohemia Interactive Studio). It was in the heady days of Focus-media and FullCircle, every day was a challenge - terror & excitement in equal measure with all the associated lessons learned.
I vividly remember playing the single player mission 'Steal the car' on "Crazy Jesus's" shiny new Dell. in NightTrain's Waterford abode. I was instantly hooked! Probably the hardest 'fair' last level I've ever played in a computer game. I spent hours learning the SQS scripting language, creating long lost levels - I even stuck my face in it! Pure brilliance!
Five years on...
Bohemia have been busy developing Armed Assault - a 1.5 version of Operation Flashpoint (Codemasters, the original publishers of the game retaining the name in what many consider a mean spirited move). In the interim they have developed simulators for the US and AU armed forces and have been working towards a masterpiece simply labeled game2. ArmA is due Q3 this year, A tech demo is sitting here...Game2, already a legend if they can pull it off, sits somewhere in the future...
